David Elginbrod eBook George Macdonald

This book was George MacDonald’s first of many popular novels in his day. He invented the novel in which the author occasionally inserts his own personal commentary. MacDonald did so to make clear the spiritual lessons his characters were illustrating by their lives. Those insights are inspiring and refreshing for anyone who is serious about the deeper dimensions of our present reality. In addition, the opportunity to live through the author’s eyes and experience in a bygone era, free of ubiquitous machines and devices, is really interesting and makes this lengthy book a memorable read. I will not forget it.

David Elginbrod eBook George Macdonald Reviews

Poorly formatted. Lacks active table of contents. I ended up deleting it and going back to the copy printed in the collected works.
George MacDonald is always Fantastic!

Have you read Phantastes, Lilith, The Wise Women, Thomas Thomas Wingfold, Unspoken Sermons?

My one grip is the poor formatting. The typeface is so small that its takes away from the reading pleasure.
There is a large border of about an inch on each page; this should have been made smaller to allow for a larger typeface.
Probably my favorite non-fairy story from George MacDonald. Margaret Elginbrod is without a doubt my favorite George MacDonald heroine. A great story with lots of amazing truth about God, suspense and creepiness without being gross, and romance. Great characters and very engaging story, though the pace of MacDonald's books is always pretty slow. Persevere through the Scotch--it starts to make sense after a few of MacDonald's Scotch novels.
I really love this book. I didn't know what it was going to be like when I ordered it, had never heard of it. If I could find another one like it I would want it. Once I started it I didn't want to put it down. Some one else might not like it but I loved reading it and it held my interest.
I read the abridged version of David Elginbrod, written by Michael Phillips, about 25 years ago and then read it again very recently. But good is that abridged version is, it can't hold a candle to the original. I thoroughly enjoyed every word.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE George MacDonald's writings. I will continue to read this story, but it has not been completely translated into modern English as most books I have read. It takes concentrated time to read, so I am reading it slowly when I have time.
George MacDonald is, I think, an acquired taste. And this book more so, because much of the dialogue in Scottish dialect. But the sainted Elginbrod is like the Savior Himself, an example of goodliness and kind patience. It's an intriguing mystery, love story, and the highest moral instruction. I was well rewarded for reading it. I give it only three stars because of its limited accessibility.
